A Case For Civic Rights, Not Just Purpose

Darwin’s theory of evolution implies that we exist in a materialist universe where Life is considered valuable due to its contribution to the species’ survival. In On The Origin of Species, Charles Darwin reminds us: “Nature seems so careless of the single life.”

One can take comfort, however, that even nature transcends its limitations.

In its quest for survival and adaptability, nature eventually gave birth to the concept of the immortal mind, and the profound awareness of our eternal instincts.

The human species, as the self-aware embodiment of nature, now understands that without transcending its fear-driven, primal tendencies, it has no chance to evolve into greater intelligence, to give Life, as a whole, the only chance to survive and thrive, not just on planet earth, but also throughout the cosmos, and possibly, indefinitely.

Transhumanist philosophy and evolutionary biology are at last making their way into the mainstream realm, with renewed hopes and a better understanding of human biology, our potential, and our unique place in the trajectory of evolution.

Revolutionary global initiatives like the Foresight Institute, Humanity Plus, and publications, like Immortalists Magazine, are boldly connecting transhumanists, longevitists, and evolutionary activists worldwide. The aim is to create a mass movement for the advanced technological evolution and sustainable survival for all the life forms on the planet.

Daily news tells us that world leaders are also exploring techno-progressive, transhumanists possibilities.

Vladimir Putin, for example, is encouraging research to “unlock the secret of eternal life.” As he openly expressed at a recent tour at Biocad — a Russian, anti-aging pill factory working on a formula that could increase human life-spans up to 130 years.

Scientists at Tel Aviv University have also made anti-aging advances to keep human cells regenerating for longer life. According to Professor Efrati, who masterminds the project, it is the “Holy Grail of the biology of aging.”

Professor Efrati and his team explain that aging causes the telomeres in our bodies to grow shorter, which stops as we grow older. Today, they have successfully lengthened the telomeres in their patients to help them stay young.

Billionaires, like Amazon’s CEO, Jeff Bezos, are increasingly supporting life-extension research as well. Bezos recently invested millions in the anti-aging startup Unity Biotechnology, which the Mayo Clinic has also backed. Unity Biotechnology states that they want to make the "debilitating consequences of aging as uncommon as polio."

As we evolve into a potentially immortal, multi-planetary species, we are also witnessing exponential progress in sciences seeking to develop brain-computer interfaces to correct neurological defects, trauma, and potentially increase human intelligence. The visionary Tesla and SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk, is now overseeing Neuralink, which will be used to enable the paralyzed to walk, the blind to see, and the human mind to acquire exceptional knowledge about itself.

We are now waiting for President Joe Biden to pick up on this megatrend and announce to the world that the United States of America is also on the road to become a Transhumanist nation.

As we’ve said before, here on Immortalists Magazine, the foundation for a transhumanist future has been grounded in three critical facts:

  1. The World Health Organization has declared aging a disease.

  2. The Human Genome Project has decoded our DNA.

  3. U.S. Congress has passed the Anti-Aging Research Act of 1974, to support anti-aging research.

Despite the threats of misinformation and the political and economic uncertainties exacerbated by the current COVID-19 pandemic, humanity has never been so close to realizing its most significant potential. Still, it takes a great deal of education and concerted action to inspire the world leaders and our brothers and sisters to announce their support for a Techno-Progressive Future.

Marching on the streets with anti-aging and transhumanist picket signs will tell the world that humanity has never been this close to the most significant achievements in human evolution.

However, to ensure transhumanists and life extension technologies are accessible to the most people, we need signs on our front yards, and on the World Wide Web, flashing slogans like IMMORTALITY NOW!

Have you created your unique picket sign yet? :]

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Carl Carlyle is an immortalist, musician, and writer. A graduate from UCLA in 1962 and later, while a student at Hastings Law College in San Francisco, he joined the Student League to Abolish Mortality, and the National Institute of Health, becoming an avid advocate for the scientific control of aging, life-extension and biological immortality ever since. “In the daytime, I wore a suit and tie and contacted politicians & business owners to get funding for the novel immortalist movement. At night, I formed a rock band called the Forever Maniacs and named myself ‘Johnny Forever’, singing rock songs about eternal youth and health. I also produced a musical in the 1990s called Boomers Rock Forever, a comedy about taboos and the emerging science of immortality. I published a sci-fi trilogy, The Cosmic Mutant, which tells the story of a love affair between Infinity and Eternity."

Dinorah Delfin is an activist, entrepreneur, & conceptual, multimedia artist passionate about the prospect of a technological singularity for self-enlightenment. Inspired by her lifelong interest in science and the future of humanity, Dinorah established Immortalists Magazine, and its hosting platform The Immortalists Club,to build an exclusive & diverse network of visionary thinkers that care about the future of humanity.” Dinorah dabbed in chemistry in her native country Venezuela, later switching to Baruch College in New York City where she graduated Cum Laude in Entrepreneurship Management with a minor in English.
